At least two East Carolina football coaching candidates are believed to have been interviewed during the last couple of days, and possibly a third, by director of athletics Jeff Compher.
At the same time, some early candidates to replace the fired Ruffin McNeill apparently have fallen out of the running. The school did not have a news conference planned as of Thursday evening, though Compher — who cut ties with McNeill last week after a 5-7 season — is on a tight deadline to name the team’s 21st head coach.
Pirate players are set to leave on Saturday for the holiday break, meaning if a coach is not place by then, players will likely leave without having met their new football leader.
