After East Carolina football practice Tuesday night, veteran receivers coach Donnie Kirkpatrick recollected a 7-on-7 summer passing camp at ECU in 2009 when rising South Central High School freshman Vernon Hargreaves III successfully battled with a senior and Division-I bound receiver from a Durham high school.
On Wednesday, former South Central football coach Walt Davis told the same story.
With his dad serving as an ECU assistant coach under Skip Holtz, Hargreaves spent some of his teenage years in Greenville and one year playing at South Central before Holtz and staff members — including Vernon Hargreaves Jr.
