The East Carolina University women’s basketball team defeated the University of South Carolina Upstate 63-53, Sunday afternoon in Minges Coliseum.
ECU (7-2) came out scoring the first two points of the game thanks to junior guard Raven Johnson. The Pirates kept their lead with a wide gap of 15-2 with 3:43 left in the first quarter until Upstate (3-6) began closing the gap. Three 3-pointers in a row by the Spartans propelled Upstate within four points of the Pirates. ECU extended its point deficit over Upstate, ending the first quarter with a 17-11 advantage.
Second quarter began with missed layups and fouls committed by both teams.
