ECU won its first conference game against Southern Methodist in Dallas, TX by a score of 49-23
Down 23-7 in the second quarter, East Carolina (3-2 1-1 AAC) seemed down for the count early. But James Summers sparked the offense and ECU scored 42 unanswered points, going on to win the game 49-23 while taking over the second half. Summers continued to dominate defenses, rushing for 85 yards on nine carries while also completing 90 percent of his passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Summers finished the game with a total of four touchdowns and led ECU to its first conference win this season.
