ECU volleyball looks for different result against UConn

The Pirates (11-18) took UConn to five sets, but unfortunately were downed by the Huskies (16-14), losing the first match 3-2 in the last meeting between the two clubs.

“It was disappointing. We were so close, but just fell a little short against UConn,” sophomore Ashton Mares said.

Ashton Mares led ECU with her fourth consecutive double-double, racking up 16 kills and 11 digs. Sabrina Gonzalez set the tone for the Pirate’s offense dishing out 41 assists. While Erika Figueroa balanced the team with 26 digs on defense.

“Ashton has been pretty solid for us the last two seasons so we always count on her to bring her ‘A game’ and be a force for the other team to contend with,” Pirate head coach Julie Torbett said.
