East Carolina University announced today it will not travel to Blacksburg, Virginia for Saturday’s football game against No. 13 Virginia Tech due to Hurricane Florence.
The press release said ECU cited significant imminent safety concerns that include the high probability of a catastrophic impact on the region and perilous travel conditions before, during and after the storm.
ECU hopes the game can be rescheduled at a later date this season, according to the release.
ACC policy dictates that most times the home team determines the status of a game. In a press release, Virginia Tech Athletic Director Whit Babcock indicates the Hokies were waiting until Wednesday to make a decision on the game.
