ECU Track and Field legend looks to continue career

Avion Jones made his mark on both the East Carolina track and field program’s and the NCAA’s history but he hasn’t stopped grinding since completing his athletic career as a Pirate.

Jones had a record-breaking career at ECU after his transfer from the Virginia Military Institute. In 2016, his final year of NCAA eligibility, Jones set the NCAA record for the men’s high jump when he cleared 2.31 meters, which is about seven feet and seven inches high. Jones was also a two-time, first-team All-American during his time in Greenville, North Carolina.

“I think it sets a precedent that if you’re going to transfer here, the resources are available to you to be very successful not only as an athlete, but a student as well,” said Head Coach Curt Kraft.
