The East Carolina University Pirates softball team hosted the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tar Heels on Wednesday at the ECU Softball Stadium as it was defeated 5-0.
With the blue sky as a backdrop, ECU (19-14, 1-2 AAC) dueled UNC (17-12, 6-3 ACC) in what turned out to be a battle of the pitchers. In the circle for the Pirates was its ace, sophomore right-handed pitcher Erin Poepping.
Through the first four innings, Poepping held the Tar Heels to just one hit. That hit, which came with one out in the second inning, was quickly negated with a ground out and fly out to end the frame.
