The East Carolina University softball team was shutout 5-0 by defending American Athletic Conference champion the University of Tulsa yesterday in Oklahoma.
Other than one inning, the game was a pitchers duel. Tulsa broke the game open and scored all five of its runs, and the only runs of the game, in the fifth inning. ECU fought in the seventh inning, getting a rare lead off batter on when senior infielder Meredith Burroughs singled. That was followed up by a walk to redshirt sophomore Tate McClellan, but the Pirates couldn’t make anything else happen in the inning or get any runs across.
