ECU softball ends regular season with 4-3 loss to UCF

The East Carolina University softball team ended its up-and-down regular season on a low note today, falling to the University of Central Florida 4-3 which completed the sweep for UCF and clinched the Pirates the seventh seed in the American Athletic Conference tournament.

ECU (23-31, 8-13 AAC) started the game slowly, as it gave up two doubles in the bottom of the first inning to give the Knights an early 1-0 advantage. Redshirt senior Alex Mycek would respond in the second inning with a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1.

The score would remain that way until the bottom of the fifth inning after UCF (34-21, 12-9 AAC) used a Pirate error and four hits to to score three runs in the inning.
