East Carolina quarterback Kurt Benkert tore a knee ligament on a running play at Tuesday night's practice and will miss the entire season.
Although ECU has not yet confirmed the injury, Benkert earlier today posted the following on Twitter: "You can sit there and ask "why me?" or you can embrace it and say what can I next?"
The sophomore was named last week as the team's new starting passer for the Pirates' season opener next Saturday against Towson.
Benkert left Tuesday's practice early on a golf cart, but team officials said it was because the QB had a class.
