East Carolina’s offense could not figure out the Explorers’ starting pitcher Luke Reilly, and trailed 3-2 in the seventh inning. But the third time around the lineup produced some strong at-bats for the Pirates. Luke Bolka shot a line drive into left field on a full count followed up by a Spencer Brickhouse blooper that fell between three La Salle defenders.
Two batters later head coach Cliff Godwin called upon senior Wes Philips to pinch hit. After working another full count, Philips sent a grounder up the middle that scored Brickhouse from second to tie the game at three.
