History was set on Sunday for the East Carolina University lacrosse team, as its 15-14 overtime win over Gardner-Webb University marked the first ever win in program history.
Sophomore midfielder Mackell Schultes tied the game at 14-14 with just 50 seconds remaining in regulation to save the team’s first chance at victory. Freshman midfielder Megan Pallozzi followed that up 40 seconds into the overtime period, scoring the sudden death goal, clinching the Pirates (1-2) win. Pallozzi scored a team-high four goals in total on the day, and Schultes added two of her own to help lead the Pirates.
