The East Carolina University lacrosse team traveled to Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Friday to take on Winthrop University in ECU’s first ever road game, falling to the more experienced Eagles, 17-9.
The Pirates (0-2) were tied at 2-2 early in the game before Winthrop went on a five-goal run with 7:11 to play. The Eagles went into the halftime break with a six goal advantage, 9-3.
Winthrop (1-0) came out with the same intensity it showed in the first half, never looking back en route to its 17-9 opening day win. It was able to build a 10-goal lead with less than 21 minutes left to play and easily coast to its first win of the season.
