ECU interviews more coaches

A late candidate emerged during East Carolina football’s search for a new coach, and the Pirates appear to have their man.

According to sources, Duke offensive coordinator Scottie Montgomery is believed to be ECU’s next coach. Approval is expected today during a university board of trustees special session.

The board of trustees special meeting regarding personnel is scheduled for 5 p.m. The meeting was announced Friday.

Final interviews were conducted Saturday — eight days after Ruffin McNeill was fired — and Montgomery’s emergence gained steam throughout the day.

James Madison head coach Everett Withers also was slated to interview Saturday, as was former Michigan coach Brady Hoke, although they appeared out of the mix late Saturday night.
