East Carolina announced Thursday the hiring of former Louisiana Tech offensive coordinator Tony Petersen to the same position for the Pirates under new head coach Scottie Montgomery.
Petersen will also serve as ECU’s quarterbacks coach, according to a press release. He was also the quarterbacks coach at Louisiana Tech, where he worked for three seasons under former ECU head coach Skip Holtz.
During Petersen’s tenure at Louisiana Tech, the Bulldogs won 18 games and notched bowl victories in each of the last two postseasons.
Petersen was nominated this year for the Broyles Award, given to the nation’s top assistant, for his work with the Bulldogs’ offense, which rolled up 687 total yards — 458 passing — in a 47-28 win over Arkansas State in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
