Prince Williams went from sophomore sensation to an almost forgotten man and now, he is hopeful he can end his East Carolina basketball career by fulfilling the promise he showed in his second season with the Pirates.
The reasons for Williams’ disappointing junior campaign remain a bit of a mystery. The 6-foot-5 Raleigh native did not suffer any significant injuries. His relationship with coach Jeff Lebo seemed just as solid as it did when Williams, a point guard, averaged 9.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while leading the team in assists as a sophomore.
Antonio Robinson, who is playing professionally in England, became the clear-cut starter at the point last season and earned the lion’s share of playing time as a senior, but it still was surprising to see Williams’ minutes cut from an average of 26.
