Montgomery, the fresh-faced, first-year head coach got his first chance to have a hands-on practice with his newly adopted players Wednesday. It was the first time a coach not named Ruffin McNeill overlooked the Cliff Moore Practice Complex since 2009.
“I am getting adjusted to my new role so I am excited about seeing everything from the offense, defense and special teams,” Montgomery said at his press conference Monday. “What I love most is watching and helping our players get better every day.”
For Montgomery, the former Duke and Pittsburgh Steelers assistant, competition is the biggest preaching point so far in the young spring season.
