The Gold team defeated the Purple team 21-14 as the East Carolina University football team finished its spring practice sessions on Saturday with its annual Purple-Gold game at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
The two teams, with the Gold led by defensive coordinator David Blackwell, and the Purple led by offensive coordinator Tony Petersen, were close all day. Each team only committed one turnover each, and Gold (352) slightly edged Purple (314) in total yardage. Head coach Scottie Montgomery liked the play and competitiveness of his team.
"The competition between the Purple and the Gold was good to see, and yes, there were some bragging rights,” Montgomery said.
