ECU football competes in annual Purple-Gold game

On the first play of scrimmage, all eyes took focus on the monster play of receiver Trevon Brown. Brown managed to come down with a slightly underthrown football from junior quarterback Kurt Benkert and then beat the backside of the Pirates secondary to score the game’s first touchdown.

“It’s a good thing to start with a play like that offensively,” ECU head coach Scottie Montgomery said. “Defensively we just went against a great player.”

The receiving core showed today they have the chance to turn heads under offensive coordinator Tony Peterson’s new aerial attack offense.

Of any group, the receiving core looked the strongest in the contest, recording 25 catches for 447 total yards and one Brown touchdown.
