The East Carolina University softball team had a tough weekend against Memphis University as it lost the series to the Tigers 1-2. After winning the first game, the Pirates were blown out in the final two games of the series.
Helped by a six-run third inning, Memphis (17-14, 2-1 AAC) won the final game of the American Athletic Conference series on Sunday over ECU (19-13, 1-2 AAC) 9-1 in six innings. Junior infielder Kendra Ziemba got the only hit and run for the Pirates.
ECU had a chance to score in the top of the first. Sophomore infielder Ashleigh Inae and redshirt junior utility player Rachel McCollum drew one-out walks and advanced to second and third with one out.
