ECU falls in wild one

PROVO, Utah — BYU flipped the script on East Carolina on Saturday night, doing to the Pirates what they had done to opponents the previous two games.

The host Cougars claimed, just barely, the first-ever football meeting between the teams by rallying from 14 points in the hole to gash ECU during the middle quarters in a tense 45-38 game in LaVell Edwards Stadium that appeared headed for overtime at one point.

The Pirates’ comebacks did not stop coming until the final whistle, as they rallied furiously behind quarterback Blake Kemp in the fourth and tied the game, 35-35.
