ECU falls in OT

Missed opportunities at the free throw line Tuesday night cost the East Carolina women’s basketball team, which lost its fifth straight game with a 74-67 setback in overtime against SMU in Dallas.

ECU (9-15, 3-9 American Athletic Conference) surged to take control about halfway through the final quarter and led 62-60 when I’Tiana Taylor was fouled with 21 seconds left in the game. Taylor missed both attempts, but the rebound was corralled by the Pirates and Alex Frazier was fouled and went 1-of-2 at the stripe to make it 63-60.

But SMU (11-12, 6-6) put up two 3-point attempts on the ensuing possession, the second a make by Morgan Bolton at the buzzer to force OT.
