The Phoenix (10-18) handed the Pirates (20-9, 2-1 AAC) their second loss of the season back in early March in a game that went 10 innings. Head coach Cliff Godwin made the questionable call of stretching out sophomore closer Joe Ingle to three innings, which eventually earned Ingle his first loss of the season.
“If I’m going to lose, I’m going to lose with our guy. We lost with our guy,” Godwin said after the loss.
Yet, Godwin pulled the same move on Tuesday, as he pitched Ingle for four innings, but this time picked up the victory.
