The East Carolina University baseball team could not complete the sweep on Sunday against Monmouth University. Despite early success, a mid-game slip cost the Pirates their third win in two days.
For ECU (5-2) starting on the mound was junior pitcher Tyler Smith. Smith pitched very well through the first six innings only surrendering one run. Neither team scored in the first inning, but in the bottom of the second ECU caught fire.
Freshman infielder Thomas Francisco led off the bottom of the second inning for the Pirates with a walk. Senior infielder Turner Brown followed with what ended as a fielder's choice base hit.
