East Carolina routs SMU, 49-23

The Pirates (3-2, 1-1 American Athletic Conference) racked in a season-high 555 yards on offense, scoring seven of its touchdowns with six different players.

The defense trumped its season total in sacks, bring down SMU (1-4, 0-1 AAC) quarterback Matt Davis eight times. ECU came into the game with five sacks on the season.

The game opened with the Pirates starting out slowly in the first half for the second consecutive game, as they were haunted by turnovers with starting quarterback Blake Kemp in the game.

The Mustangs scored on their second play from scrimmage, as Davis had his pass deflected by ECU senior linebacker Zeek Bigger, falling into the hands of tight end Jeremiah Gaines who ran for a 60-yard touchdown.
