With the temperatures reaching over 80 degrees and the ominous threat of rainfall, the Houston Cougars’ (30-24) Savannah Heebner tossed a 6-0 shutout Thursday against East Carolina to advance to the American Athletic Conference Softball Championship game Saturday and end the Pirates’ season.
Heebner secured the win against ECU (26-30, 6-14 AAC), recording her sixth shutout of the season, while also getting help from her offense. The first run was scored by Houston’s (30-24, 14-6 AAC) Maya Thomas in the bottom of the fourth. She stole second and third base, before a base hit from Sarah Barker sent her home.
