COLUMN: Summers deserves starting job

He has previously been splitting time with fellow junior Blake Kemp, but each of the last two games saw Summers play the final three quarters.

The two-quarterback tandem seemed to be a good idea, as Kemp is a pocket passer and Summers is a running threat. The thought of using both consistently makes sense but simply put, the Pirates are a much better team with Summers at the helm.

Kemp has started against Virginia Tech and most recently SMU, games that saw the Pirates turn the ball over early and dig themselves into tough situations. Summers has then saved the Pirates in both contests, never surrendering momentum when he’s in the game.
