Neither the heat and humidity of August, nor the memories of last year’s 3-9 record can dampen the East Carolina University Pirates’ enthusiasm as it prepares for the 2017 football season, a fact made apparent as Head Coach Scottie Montgomery spoke at ECU’s Media Day Saturday.
The second-year head coach started his press conference by describing the day’s practice, which was the first time players wore pads since camp began last Thursday. Montgomery said the defense outperformed the offense, which should come as good news to Pirate fans, due to the team’s defensive weakness last year.
“The most spirited practice of the year happened today,” Montgomery said.
