Connecticut starting pitcher Tim Cate shut down the East Carolina baseball team’s bats Thursday night in Storrs, Connecticut, throwing a complete-game shutout, in a 6-0 victory for the Huskies in game one of the final series of the regular season.
UConn’s (30-22, 13-9 American Athletic Conference) Cate was dominant Thursday night, if not quite unhittable. In what was his first outing this season where he lasted all nine innings, the left-handed hurler threw 109 pitches, giving up five hits and striking out eight Pirates. Cate wasn’t flawless on the night, as he also handed out some free bases, walking four batters.
