It was not a pleasant stay for the East Carolina baseball team at the Coral Gables Regional last season.
The Pirates came into the four-team NCAA regional as the No. 2 seed, but they lacked offensive punch in their two games — losing 6-3 to Columbia and 2-0 to Florida International — to finish their first campaign under coach Cliff Godwin with a 40-22 record.
Godwin and some players admitted last week the team was likely low on energy after playing a grueling but successful stretch of games late in the season to earn a No. 2 seed for NCAA play.
