The Pirates (31-19-1,12-8-1 AAC) came into Sunday’s game, second in the conference. With a win over South Florida (23-28,8-13) and a Tulane (34-15,12-6) loss to Memphis (17-34,8-12) the Pirates would have moved into first place. But for the second time in three weeks, ECU did not do their part to take first place in the conference, losing 6-5.
Jacob Wolfe started the game for the Pirates, and right from the go he struggled and never really looked good in the 4 2/3 innings he pitched. Wolfe in his start last week tossed a complete game while only allowing two runs on four hits, but it may have taken a toll on his body as he tossed nearly 140 pitches.
