Senior Bakri Abushouk tied East Carolina University’s 8K record in cross country on Friday. Finishing 14th overall at the Paul Short Run, Abushouk and the Pirates took on 40 other teams at Lehigh University for the race.
“To be honest, I expected Bakri to break this record. He has a chance, if he stays healthy, to break many records at ECU before it’s all said and done,” head coach Josey Weaver said.
Abushouk ran a time of 23:53, matching former Pirate Kyle MacKenzie’s time in 2003. MacKenzie ran his race 14 years ago at the North Carolina Intercollegiate Division I Men’s Cross Country Championships at Overton’s Lake Kristi.
