Back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning propelled the East Carolina softball team to a 4-2 win over the University of Central Florida Wednesday afternoon in the opening game of the American Athletic Conference Championships, which is being hosted by the Pirates.
It was only fitting that ECU (26-29, 6-13 AAC), the No. 6 seed in the tournament, resorted to the long ball to defeat UCF (29-23, 11-8 AAC), the No. 3 seed, for its first-ever AAC Softball Championship game win. After all, earlier in the season, the Pirates set a new school and conference record in team home runs.
