The American Athletic Conference confirmed last week that it will be adding women's lacrosse as its 22nd sport in the conference. Starting in the spring of 2018, East Carolina University will make its first appearance in women’s lacrosse competition.
The conference will be comprised of ECU, Temple University, University of Cincinnati, University of Connecticut, Vanderbilt University and the University of Florida as affiliate members.
Vanderbilt and Florida are not currently in the AAC, but will join the conference for this sport only.
“We are extremely pleased to be adding women’s lacrosse as a conference sport,” Commissioner Mike Aresco said in a press release.
