We’ve argued for a long time that the best part of basketball, the most delicious play, the greatest surprise, is when a great passer delivers. There’s a history there. It probably starts with Bob Cousy, then Pete Maravich and runs up to Bird and Magic, (the other) Jason Williams and now, in our time, Nikola Jokic.
A great dunker can excite a crowd, but it’s rarely a shock when someone dunks. You kind of know it’s coming. But a great passer? They see things you don’t, so when they deliver something you couldn’t believe, it’s like, well, magic.
