Kentucky’s disdain for Christian Laettner is widely known and enduring. He’s most famous of course for hitting The Shot that beat the Unforgettables, Kentucky’s brilliant team of average players that greatly exceeded any reasonable expectation fans had of them.
This was when Kentucky was rebuilding under Rick Pitino and was excpected to be, at best, average.
So it’s understandable that Laettner broke hearts across the Commonwealth. His so-called stomp on Aminu Timberlake was part of it too.
In truth, though, it wasn’t the first time Laettner helped break the Wildcats any more than it was the first time Duke gave Kentucky emotional fits.
