One of the forgotten names of the 1960s is Zelmo Beaty.
Overshadowed by Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Willis Reed and others, Beaty was still a fine center.
At Prairie View A&M, he averaged 25 points and 20 rebounds. He was a physical player which you had to be in that era but going up against guys like the ones we just mentioned would be a challenge for anyone.
Beaty played eight years in the NBA then four more in the ABA. He was also active in the NBA and ABA player’s unions.
After basketball was over, like Bill Russell, he moved to Seattle and became a financial planner and a substitute teacher.
