In 1972, the Pittsburgh Steelers met the Oakland Raiders in the playoffs when both teams were on the rise. Oakland had Ken Stabler and Pittsburgh had Terry Bradshaw but it wasn’t a quarterback duel: the score was 7-7 with :30 seconds left when something amazing happened.
Both teams were outstanding on defense and the Raiders had Bradshaw under real pressure. He got the pass off but it bounced off of John Fuqua (the Oakland version) or Jack Tatum (the Pittsburgh version).
Either way, the ball bounced back and ended up in Franco Harris’s hands and the big fullback picked it up and rumbled down the sideline and scored with just seconds left.
