Reynolds Coliseum opened in 1949 and immediately established itself in the psyche of what would become the ACC and, later, the Triangle.
Everett Case came to Raleigh from Indiana in 1946 and with Reynolds, he began to turn basketball into a burning passion in North Carolina.
The Dixie Classic ran from 1949 to 1960, stopping when the gambling scandal touched NC State and UNC and, briefly, Wake Forest when Billy Packer was implicated (he was later absolved).
The ACC held its tournament there from 1954 through 1966 and of course NC State played there from 1949 until the new barn, now called the PNC Arena, opened in 1999.
