Archibald struggled in high school but spent a year at Arizona Western before going to UTEP the year after the Miners won the national championship as Texas Western in 1966. It was also the year the school changed its name to the University of Texas at El Paso.
He was at UTEP three years after Nolan Richardson graduated incidentally.
He got to the NBA and quickly became a superb guard. Nicknamed Tiny, Archibald was quick and fearless.
