The hip idea in basketball now is that big men are outdated.
Well that depends. If most of the big men are mediocre and don’t even like to play inside, then yes, you could make that argument.
But when you have great big men, well, great big men usually are worth more than great little men.
The three point shot changes things obviously but still: if you have a guy who can score at a high percentage inside, are you going to pass on him?
Take Boston’s great Kevin McHale. He got overshadowed to a certain extent by Larry Bird, but there have not been many post players like McHale.
