George Gervin is somewhat forgotten but when the NBA-ABA merger happened, he was a revelation to the NBA.
In 1976, 6-7 guards were a real rarity and Gervin, rail thin, broke a lot of molds.
He was also a bit of a free spirit and very creative on the court. He didn’t really have a go-to move; he just kind of went with the flow and took what the game gave him.
Until San Antonio drafted David Robinson in 1989, Gervin was the greatest player the team had seen. Since then of course, the Spurs have seen David Robinson, Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard come through, among others.
