DURHAM, N.C. – Senior back Jillian Wolgemuth has been named the first ACC Defensive Player of the Week of the 2019 season after guiding third-ranked Duke to a 2-0 opening weekend.
A team co-captain and a second team National Field Hockey Coaches Association and All-ACC pick in 2018, Wolgemuth was key to the Blue Devils’ defensive success in a pair of wins over top-25 opponents.
After Duke surrendered a goal to ninth-ranked Penn State in the first five minutes of Friday’s 4-1 season-opening victory, Wolgemuth and the defensive unit did not allow another tally for the rest of the weekend, logging 115 minutes without allowing a goal.
