DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's soccer signee Grace Watkins reeled in one of the nation's top honors last week by being named 2019-20 Gatorade California Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Watkins as California's best high school girls' soccer player.
With the honor, Watkins is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Soccer Player of the Year award, which will be announced later this month. She joins future Duke teammate Sophie Jones, who was tabbed the California State Player of the Year last year before going on to win the national award.
