TEMPE, Ariz. – Former Duke standout Ashley Twichell repeated as the women’s 10-kilometer national champion over the weekend at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships, held at Tempe Town Lake.
Twichell claimed her third consecutive and fourth overall 10K national title after previously finishing first in the event in 2012, 2016 and 2017. She turned in a time of 1:52:12.105 for a 17-second victory. Haley Anderson (1:52:29.617) was second and Erica Sullivan (1:52:31.972) third.
With her victory in Friday’s 10K race, the 2011 Duke graduate secured a berth to represent the United States at this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo.
