CASTAIC LAKE, Calif. – Blue Devil alumna Ashley Twichell punched her ticket to this summer's FINA World Championships in Budpest, Hungary with a convincing victory at Friday's USA Swimming Open Water National Championships.
Twichell finished nearly a minute ahead of the field in the women's 10-kilometer race, recording a time of 2:04:17.84. The win in the 10K event was the third overall and second straight for the 2011 Duke graduate.
“It felt really good – definitely not what I was expecting,” Twichell said. “It wasn't my strategy going into it, and kind of like with open water, it doesn't go as planned.
