Top-Ranked Tar Heels Top Duke, 5-2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Facing the top-ranked Tar Heels for the second time this season, fourth-ranked Duke was unable to come up with a different result, falling 5-2 Sunday in non-conference action at Karen Shelton Stadium.

The Blue Devils (13-4) received goals from seniors Caroline Andretta and Rose Tynan in the loss.

Following a back-and-forth opening 15 minutes, North Carolina took the lead on a penalty stroke by Megan Duvernois. The final two minutes of the half featured a flurry of action, as the Tar Heels’ Erin Matson broke through to make it 2-0 before Andretta put a final touch on a ball from junior Margaux Paolino to score.
