Duke University was well-represented in the Rio Olympics this summer with Blue Devils from around the participating in a variety of sports. Five Blue Devil student-athletes and coaches helped their team earn medals for their respective events during the Olympic games.
Former Duke fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad won the first medal for a Blue Devil in Rio after helping the U.S. saber team win bronze. She made history as the first American athlete to compete wearing a hijab and was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. Muhammad starred at Duke as a three-time All-American fencer for the Blue Devils.
