  • 2016 – Women's Basketball – Led by Duke alumnae Alana Beard and Chelsea Gray the Los Angeles Sparks registered a 77-76 victory over the Minnesota Lynx to win the third WNBA Championship in team history.

October 21

  • 2007 – Men's Golf – ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced the establishment of the ACC Scholar-Athlete Awards for all of the conference's sponsored sports, with the Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Award being named after former Duke golf coach Rod Myers. The 34-year mentor of the Duke men's golf program was one of the mainstays of the Duke University athletic department and a well-respected member of the golf community.
